Israel Gaza FAQ: International law (1)

What procedures did the IDF implement to comply with international law?

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) is firmly committed to respecting its obligations under international law, including under the Law of Armed Conflict. To this end all IDF soldiers routinely undergo extensive mandatory training designed to familiarize them with the laws of war.

Observance of the Law of Armed Conflict was also implemented in the IDF's specific orders and rules of engagement for the Gaza operation and in the many precautions the IDF took to minimize civilian casualties.

Israel investigates every instance of alleged misconduct, and takes action to prosecute violations in appropriate cases and to make policy adjustments designed to prevent repeat occurrences of unfortunate incidents.
