Israel Sends Humanitarian Aid to Albania

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
May 18, 1997

As part of the humanitarian aid to the Albanian population, the Government of Israel has decided, through its embassy in Rome, to send tens of tons of flour to Albania. This aid will meet the needs of hundreds of Albanian families for a period of three months. The aid will be forwarded to Albania through the UN organization WFP (The World Food Program).

This humanitarian aid is an expression of Israel's solidarity with the Albanian people. Moreover, it is testimony to the close relations between them and the Jewish people, as also reflected during World War II, when the Albanian people helped save all of the Albanian Jews from the hands of the Nazis.
