Israel Sending Humanitarian Aid to Guinea-Bissau

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
21 July 1998

Guinea-Bissau, through its ambassador to Israel, Hilia Barber, has appealed to Israel for humanitarian aid, in the wake of the civil war taking place in the West African country. The war has caused thousands of people to flee their homes and seek refuge in other areas of the country and in Senegal.

The government, through the Foreign Ministry, has responded positively to the request. Medical aid, including equipment and medicine, is now en route to the refugees.

Israel's ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Doron Grossman, will deliver the aid package to the international aid agencies operating in the area, who will transfer the supplies to their destination.
