The representative of the French Presidency of the European
Union, the Charge d'Affaires A.I. of the Embassy of France in
Israel, Marc Finaud, expressed today (December 26) to Dr. Alon
Liel, Director-General of the Foreign Ministry, the European
Union's support for President Clinton's commitment to the peace
process, noting that his proposals to Israel and the Palestinian
Authority present a true opportunity for peace.
The representative of the European Union emphasized Europe's
willingness to assist in realizing the success of the efforts for
peace, and to contribute to its development.

Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami spoke yesterday (December 25)
with the Foreign Ministers of France, the Russian Federation,
Spain, Turkey, Canada, Italy, Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom
and Jordan, as well as with the Prime Minister of Sweden, the
Secretary General of the United Nations and the European Union's
External Relations Commissioner.
The Foreign Minister briefed his colleagues regarding recent
developments in the talks in Washington. Ben-Ami said that "This
is the time for decisions and the government of Israel is
seriously considering the ideas currently on the agenda."
The Foreign Minister's colleagues expressed their appreciation
for Israel's determination and efforts to bring peace to the
Middle East and promised to do all in their power to provide
assistance.
