Israeli Training Courses for Palestinians Resume

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
2 December 1998

After a prolonged break, agricultural training courses for Palestinians sponsored by the Foreign Ministry's Center for International Cooperation (Mashav) have resumed. The resumption of the courses was facilitated by the appointment of Hikmat Zayed as holder of the Palestinian Authority's agriculture portfolio and his subsequent request to the Foreign Ministry that the courses be resumed.

As a result, a graduation ceremony will be held tomorrow (Thursday), 3.12.98, at 13:30, at the Sironit Hotel in Netanya, for 30 agronomists from the PA's agriculture department who participated in a course on applied research. The participants, a number of whom hold doctorates, are involved in agricultural training in the PA.

The course was run by the Volcani Institute and included lectures by internationally renowned Israeli researchers and by Palestinian researchers, field trips to the Lachish region and the Galilee "triangle," integrating theoretical studies and practical work.

The graduation ceremony will be attended by Mr. Zayed, his deputy Mr. Izzam Tubeila, the Foreign Ministry's deputy director-general of Mashav, Mr. Haim Divon, and by representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry.
