FM Response to Egyptian Accusations regarding EgyptAir 990 Crash

(Communicated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
21 November 1999

In response to journalists' questions, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman expresses repugnance and outrage that the Egyptian media is placing blame for the crash of EgyptAir flight 990 on Israeli sources. The charges are mendacious and baseless. The tragedy of the EgyptAir crash shocked the Israeli government and people, which shared the grief of the victims' families. The Government of Israel sent a message of condolence to the government of Egypt.

Such libelous accusations were published in the Egyptian media on the very day when we note the 22nd anniversary of President Anwar Sadat's historic visit to Jerusalem, in a manner which harms the path of peace begun then by Egypt.
