FM Shalom Meets Tunisian FM Hermassi

30 Nov 2004
Tunisian FM Abdel Baki Hermassi told Israeli FM Silvan Shalom that “Tunisia will continue to assist and strengthen every peace effort between Israel and the Palestinians.”

(Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Media Advisor)

At their meeting today (30 November) in the Hague, Tunisian Foreign Minister Abdel Baki Hermassi told Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom that “Tunisia will continue to assist and strengthen every peace effort between Israel and the Palestinians.” The meeting took place in the framework of the mid term ministerial meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (the Barcelona Process), now being held in the Dutch capital.

Mr. Shalom stated that a window of opportunity now exists to advance the peace process and it should be fully exploited, yet words alone on the part of the Palestinians will not suffice and there is a need to see actions as well.

Minister Hermassi told his Israeli counterpart that members of the Jewish faith have always been well received in Tunisia, and that he is looking forward to a strengthening of ties between the two states.
