Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom met today (November 8) with the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, Wen Jiabao, in Beijing.

The Chinese Prime Minister said to Foreign Minister Shalom that the Disengagement Plan is bringing about reconciliation between the two peoples. The Foreign Minister stated that China is playing an important role in the international arena. Its support for the UN Security Council Resolution calling for the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon alongside its support for the Russian-backed Resolution against terrorism, attest to the key role played by China.

Foreign Minister Shalom called on China to act vis-a-vis the Arab countries, in order to bring about an improvement in relations between Israel and the Arab countries.
