FM Shalom meets with German FM Fischer to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations

FM Shalom, who is visiting Germany to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany, discussed with FM Fischer the issue of Iran’s nuclear program.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, who is visiting Germany to mark 40 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and Germany, met today (May 18, 2005) with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer. They discussed the issue of Iran’s nuclear program, and FM Shalom presented Israel’s position that the time has come to submit the issue to the United Nations Security Council.

Foreign Minister Fischer reported to FM Shalom that the EU3, comprising the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Britain) are scheduled to meet with the Iranians on May 24, before the convening of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IARA) on June 16. In the wake of this meeting, further steps vis-à-vis Iran will be considered.

Foreign Minister Shalom is also scheduled to meet today with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
