Israel sends flood aid to Central African Republic

14 Nov 2005
Israel responded to the appeals of the Central African Republic to the international community for humanitarian assistance, following the fierce floods which ravaged the country.

(Communicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman)

Israeli Ambassador to the Central African Republic Benny Omer today (Monday, 14 November) transferred humanitarian assistance from the State of Israel to the Republic's capital city of Bangui.

Israel responded to the appeals of the Central African Republic to the international community for humanitarian assistance, following the fierce floods which ravaged the country over the last summer, causing extensive damage in the capital and in other towns around the country. Over 20,0000 people were left homeless in the wake of the floods.

The Israeli relief consignment, consisting mainly of medicine and humanitarian supplies, is intended to assist the authorities of the Central African Republic as they confront the sanitation crisis and other difficulties following the floods.

The Central African Republic expressed its great appreciation for the Israeli humanitarian assistance. Central African Republic President Francois Bozize thanked Ambassador Omer, and emphasized that "true friendship between countries is revealed in times of need."
