27 Aug 2006

FM Livni's talks in Germany and Denmark will focus on the implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701.

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni will leave today (Sunday, August 27) for a brief visit in Germany, where she will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The visit will focus on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, following the close involvement of Germany during the recent hostilities in Lebanon. FM Steinmeier visited Israel three times, in addition to his frequent telephone conversations with FM Livni.

In the course of her visit, Foreign Minister Livni will also meet with 25 members of the Israel-Germany Friendship Society of the Bundestag, which numbers about 120 German legislators. She will brief some 20 leading editors and journalists from the German media. FM Livni will conclude her visit to Germany with an appearance before the German Council on Foreign Relations (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik  - DGAP), Germany's leading national foreign policy institution.

On Tuesday, August 29, Foreign Minister Livni will visit Denmark, where she will meet with Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and with Foreign Minister Per Stig Moller.
