British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to visit Israel

David Miliband, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, will arrive in Israel on Saturday 18 November. This is his first visit to the region.

David Miliband, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, will arrive in Israel on Saturday, 18 November 2007. This is his first visit to the region.

The Israeli relationship with the United Kingdom is well known for its closely-knit, fruitful and friendly associations at all levels, and this visit represents an additional layer in the relationship.

During the visit, Secretary Miliband will be briefed on central issues of the peace process, with emphasis on British initiatives regarding the Economic Roadmap. Former Prime Minister Blair's efforts as the Quartet's regional envoy will also be noted.

During his visit, Secretary Miliband will meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, President Shimon Peres, Minister of Defense Ehud Barak and Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni, whom he met previously in New York last October. Secretary Miliband will also visit the Palestinian Authority.
