Visit to Israel of foreign ministers of Jordan and Egypt

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdelelah Al-Khatib will arrive today (Wednesday, 25 July) on an official visit to Israel, as members of the Arab League Initiative Supervisory Committee, in order to explain the initiative to Israeli leaders. The Arab initiative was reaffirmed at the Arab summit meeting in Riyadh (March 2007).

The current visit by the two ministers follows their meeting with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni in Cairo in May 2007.

The foreign ministers are scheduled to meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Chairman of the Opposition Binyamin Netanyahu. They will also visit the Knesset and meet with Speaker of the Knesset Dalia Itzik. After their meeting, they will appear before the members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
