Director General Abramovich meets with Indian FM in New Delhi

Talks center on bilateral issues and a new agreement that would allow Israelis offenders in India to serve their sentences in an Israeli prison.

Foreign Ministry Director General Aaron Abramovich met on Tuesday, 8 July 2008, in New Delhi with the Indian External Affairs Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. DG Abramovich, who is in India for a working visit, briefed the Indian minister on progress with the Palestinians and reiterated the importance of a broad, determined international front against the Iranian nuclear threat. The two also discussed bilateral cooperation in many fields, particularly economic and agricultural.

Another official delegation from the Israeli Foreign Ministry is also currently in India to discuss an agreement concerning Israeli citizens sentenced to prison in India. The agreement will allow the Israelis to serve out their sentence in a prison in Israel.
