(Communicated by the Foreign Minister's Bureau)
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman, as Chairman of the Ministers' Committee for handling claims from abroad against senior army and security forces personnel, welcomed the decision of the National Audience, Spain's top criminal court, to close the investigation of several senior Israeli officials concerning the IAF attack in July 2002 in which terrorist leader Salah Shehada was killed.
FM Liberman said that Israel has asserted from the beginning that the complaint was a political attempt to abuse the Spanish system of justice. "We view favorably any development that successfully deals with such an attempt and hope that this puts an end to the issue."
