A festive ceremony marking International Water Day, a result of cooperation between MASHAV, Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Water Authority and  Ministry of National Infrastructures, will be held in Israel on 14 March.

World Water Day, an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, is held every year on 22 March. The founder documents of sustainable development for the 21st century were signed at the 1992 conference. In addition, 178 countries, Israel included, ratified the environmental document 'Agenda 21', which aimed to determine the international environmental agenda for the 21st century. This day is marked by the UN and many countries around the world with dozens of events in which prime ministers, political leaders, environmental organizations and the public participate.

The 2010 World Bank report on climate change and development will be presented on Water Day by World Bank representatives, who will arrive in Israel from Washington. Representatives of various Israeli government departments will respond to the report.
