Second round of talks between Israel and UNIFIL on Ghajar ended

Israel clarified that it is committed to continue its attempts to reach an agreement concerning Ghajar village within the framework of UN Security Council resolution 1701.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs negotiating team, headed by MFA Director General Yossi Gal, finished the second round of talks today (Thursday, 7 January 2010) with UNIFIL commander  Maj.-Gen. Claudio Graziano, in an attempt to reach a temporary agreement  on the issue of Ghajar village.

Israel clarified that it is committed to continue its attempts to reach an agreement concerning Ghajar village within the framework of UN Security Council resolution 1701, while maintaining the security of Israel and its citizens on the one hand, and showing the utmost concern for the wellbeing and daily routines of the villagers including the preservation of the fabric of life in the village, on the other.

The talks were held in a pleasant atmosphere. Dir.-Gen. Gal presented Maj.-Gen. Graziano a gift in recognition of his promotion to a three-star general in the Italian Army.

The talks will continue within the next few weeks.
