DM MORDECHAI MEETS WITH LEBANON MONITORING COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN

Defense Minsiter Yitzhak Mordechai and other officials met yesterday
evening (Monday), 7.12.98, with the chairman of the Lebanon Monitoring
Committee, French Ambassador Joseph Laurent Rapin. Mr. Mordechai praised
the committee's work and Ambassador Rapin's contribution to it.
The defense minister explained Israel's perspective on the situation in
Lebanon to the ambassador. He said that Israel's patience in light of
Hizballah attacks is not unlimited. "One day, our patience will end and
the entire responsibility will fall on the Lebanese and Syrian
governments. We call for a solution to the situation through a security
and political agreement rather than trying to change the situation through
the use of force. It is a shame that someone is rejecting this
opportunity."
