DM MORDECHAI MEETS WITH TURKISH GENERAL KIVIRIKOGLY

Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai this evening (Thursday) 5.2.98, met at his Tel Aviv office with the chief of Turkish ground forces, General Hussein Kivirikogly, who is currently visiting Israel. Also taking part in the meeting were: the Turkish Ambassador to Israel, senior aide to the Defense Minister David Ivry, and Defense Ministry Director-General Ilan Biran. The Defense Minister stressed the warmth of Israel's relations with Turkey and its defense establishment and said that Israel is interested in developing and strengthening those relations. The Minister requested from the general to pass this message on to the Turkish Defense Minister and the Turkish armed forces on his return to Ankara. The Defense Minister told the General that Israel is carefully following events in the Gulf, and is coordinating with the United States, though Israel has no interest in becoming part of this confrontation. The Turkish Army Chief of Staff thanked the Defense Minister for the warm welcome he had received in Israel. He expressed his good impression of the high technological level of the Israeli security industries which

he had visited.
