JOINT ISRAELI-JORDANIAN HEALTH COMMITTEE TO BEGIN DISCUSSIONS TODAY

Deputy Health Minister MK Nawaf Masalha will head the Israeli delegation to the Joint Israeli-Jordanian Health Committee. Other members of the delegation include Health Ministry Deputy Director- General Dr. Boaz Lev; Ms. Pnina Herzog, Health Ministry Director of International Relations; and Dr. Yossi Bertz, who will replace Ms. Herzog, on 01.01.95.

At the end of August, the first Israeli-Jordanian Health Cooperation Agreement was signed during bilateral talks in Jordan. The agreement included general outlines for cooperation between the two countries regarding environmental health and information on medicine.

Regarding environmental health, it was agreed that Israel and Jordan would:

1. Transfer information regarding animal-transmitted diseases, methods to treat them, and consider the possibility of establishing a joint testing center;

2. Cooperate during natural disasters and accidents;

3. Cooperate in regard to poisons, such as trading samples and training manpower.

In the field of medicine, it was agreed to exchange information regarding standardization, expiration dates, and manpower.

The first meeting of the Joint Israeli-Jordanian Health Committee will be held today (Thursday), 22.12.94, at 10:00 hours, at the Moriah Plaza hotel in Tiberias. The next meeting will take place in Jordan.
