JAPAN PREPARED TO PARTICIPATE IN ISRAELI-JORDANIAN DESALINATION PROJECT
AFTER AMBASSADOR MEETS WITH FM LEVY

Foreign Minister David Levy met today (Tuesday), 25.11.97, in his
Jerusalem office, with Mr. Kawashima, Japan's Ambassador to Israel.
Foreign Minister Levy requested that Japan participate in desalination
plants in coordination with Israel and Jordan. Foreign Minister Levy
emphasized that Israel's assistance to Jordan vis-a-vis the resolution of
its water scarcity problems is an element in the good relationship between
the two countries.
Ambassador Shibuya expressed his country's readiness to participate in a
project of this type as part of Japan's special interest in regional
projects and its interest in aiding the peace process.

ISRAELI AND JORDANIAN RESCUE TEAMS HOLD JOINT EXERCISES

Israeli and Jordanian Naval Search and Rescue teams, today, Tuesday,
25.11.97, held joint exercises in the Gulf of Eilat/Aqaba. During the
exercises, the Israeli and Jordanian forces practiced administering aid to
survivors and small craft in each others' territorial waters.
The joint exercise's purpose was to crystallize methods of cooperation in
order to strengthen the preparedness of the forces in the event of a
civilian or tourist maritime tragedy in the Gulf of Eilat.
