JUSTICE MINISTER SIGNS ORDER OF TRANSFER FOR PA POLICE CHIEF
(Communicated by Justice Ministry spokeswoman)
Justice Minister, Tzachi Hanegbi today (Sunday), 7.9.97, signed an order
of transfer for Palestinian Police Commissioner Ghazzi Jabali to face an
investigation regarding his involvement in a conspiracy to commit criminal
acts and attempted murder, in the shooting incident in the Samaria area.
Ashkelon District Court issued, on Thursday, 4.9.97, an arrest warrant
against Ghazzi Jabali, at the request of Attorney-General Elyakim
Rubinstein.
The arrest warrant is based on prima facie evidence that in July 1997,
Jabali ordered three Palestinian policemen to commit terrorist acts
against Israeli targets. The attack of 10.7.97 against a resident of Elon
Moreh, who was driving his car, was the result. The act was indeed
committed, though it ended without casualties.
Additional acts which were planned at the suspect's initiative, were
foiled by the arrest of the three Palestinian policemen.
The new request is added to the 31 transfer requests for suspects already
submitted to the Palestinian Authority and to which the Palestinians have
not responded.
