JOINT ECONOMIC COMMITTEE TALKS TO RESUME

(Communicated by Finance Ministry Spokesman)

Following the Wye River Memorandum, Finance Ministry Director-General Prof. Ben Zion Zilberfarb and Economic Advisor to the Palestinian Authority Chairman Muhammad Rashid will meet today (Monday) 2.11.98 in Ramallah in the framework of the Israeli-Palestinian Joint Economic Committee (JEC). At Wye, it was decided that the parties would submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within six weeks of the agreement coming into effect. Dir.-Gen. Zilberfarb stated that he considers the committee's meetings significant as part of the effort to create a solid economic basis for Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Today's meeting will cover four issues: Palestinian debts; a joint war against car theft; expanding the A1 and A2 import registries and settling purchase tax accounts.
