PM NETANYAHU: ARAFAT REMARKS POSITIVE

(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Tuesday) 17.11.98, said that he views positively the remarks made by Yasser Arafat this morning, according to which the Palestinian Authority is committed to negotiations on the permanent settlement, has no intention of using violent means and will cooperate in the war against terrorism.

The Prime Minister said: "Whatever the disagreements may be, they must be settled around the negotiating table only."

He added that in the absence of further obstacles, the Cabinet will convene tomorrow to discuss the remaining issues.

Prime Minister Netanyahu made the above remarks at a ceremony to award the Knesset Prize for those who assisted in the restoration of stolen Jewish property. He also thanked the Swiss government and president for their assistance in this regard.
