33. General Assembly Resolution 3210 (XXIX), Invitation to the Palestine Liberation Organization, 14 October 1974.
Arab domination of the United Nations General Assembly enabled the PLO to win international recognition. Since 1965, PLO representatives had been permitted to address the UN on the issue of the Palestine refugees. But on 14 October 1974, 71 Arab, Asian, African and Eastern European nations sponsored the appended resolution which was approved by 105 votes in favour, 4 against (Israel, Bolivia, Dominican Republic and the U.S.). The 20 abstainers included Western European and Latin American nations.
The General Assembly,
Considering that the Palestinian people is the principal party to the question of Palestine.
Invites the Palestine Liberation Organization, the representative of the Palestinian people, to participate in the deliberations of the General Assembly on the question of Palestine in plenary meetings.
