Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Allon paid an official visit to Romania between 22 May and 1 June 1975. He held talks with President Ceausescu, Foreign Minister Macovescu and other officials. At the conclusion of the visit the following communique was issued:
At the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Mr. George Macovescu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Mr. Yigal Allon, in the company of his wife, paid an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Romania, between the 27th May and 1st of June 1975.
The Israeli guest was received by Mr. Nicolae Ceausescu, President of the Socialist Republic of Romania. Mr. Yigal Allon conveyed on behalf of the President of Israel, Prof. Ephraim Katzir, a cordial message of greetings and the best wishes for health and happiness to President Nicolae Ceausescu, and to the Romanian people wishes for new successes, for progress and prosperity.
President Nicolae Ceausescu expressed his thanks for the message and asked Mr. Yigal Allon that on the return to his country he extend to President Katzir his cordial greeting together with his wishes for peace and prosperity of the Israeli people.
During the meeting with President Nicolae Ceausescu questions relating to the promotion of the bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields were discussed.
In the course of conversations, some problems of international life, and especially those concerning the situation in the Middle East, were also examined.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Mr. Yigal Allon, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Mr. George Macovescu, reviewed the present stage of the relations between the two countries as well as their future prospects. They pointed out their positive development, appreciating that this serves the interests of both countries as well as the cause of peace and understanding among nations.
On that occasion the Ministers of Foreign Affairs agreed upon the usefulness of signing an agreement on cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries. The two sides will also study the possibility of extending cooperation in the field of technology.
The Ministers reaffirmed the adherence of their respective countries to the following principles in international relations: Respect for national independence and sovereignty, full equality of rights, non-interference in internal affairs, renunciation of force and of the threat of the use of force, mutual advantage.
Minister Allon and Minister Macovescu underlined the necessity of a new approach in inter-state relations, and in this context they pronounced themselves for the definitive elimination of the outdated policies of pressure and dictates in international relations.
During the talks special attention was attached to the problems of the Middle East. The two ministers presented the views of their governments on those issues. They expressed their conviction that the situation in the Middle East demands, in the interest of peace and security, a rapid settlement with the view of establishing a secure, durable and just peace in the area through the use of diplomatic and other peaceful means.
The ministers positively appreciated the exchange of views that took place and emphasized the usefulness of continuing bilateral contacts on all levels.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yigal Allon, and his party visited industrial and agricultural sites in and around Bucharest and Brasov, which enabled them to acquaint themselves with various aspects of Romanian economic and social development and the rising standards in the lives of the Romanian people.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yigal Allon, expressed his thanks for the warm and cordial welcome and the hospitality extended to him, to Mrs. Allon and to his party.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Mr. Yigal Allon, invited the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Mr. George Macovescu, to pay an official visit to Israel in the company of his wife. The invitation was accepted with pleasure. The date of the visit is to be established subsequently, through diplomatic channels.
