17. Security Council Resolution 449 (1979) extending UNDOF's mandate, 30 May 1979.
The Golan Heights region continued to remain peaceful, partly because of Syria's growing involvement in Lebanon, partly because the Israel-Egypt peace treaty now removed the latter as a military factor in the Arab-Israel conflict, and partly because UNDOF's performance has been without incident. On 30 May the Council extended for another six months the UNDOF mandate. China, as usual, did not participate in the debate, and the vote was 14 to nil. Text:
The Security Council
Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S/13350),
Decides:
(a) To call upon the parties concerned to implement immediately Security Council resolution 338 (1973) of 22 October 1973.
(b) To renew the mandate of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another period of six months, that is, until 30 November 1979.
(c) To request the Secretary-General to submit at the end of this period a report on the developments in the situation and the measures taken to implement Security Council resolution 338 (1973).
