41. Statement by Ambassador Habib on the Cease-Fire, 24 July 1981.
Ambassador Habib was able to achieve a cease-fire on 24 July which was endorsed by the Israeli government. After a special cabinet session, Mr. Habib made the following statement:
I have today reported to President Reagan that, as of 13:30 hours local time, July 24, 1981, all hostile military action between Lebanese and Israeli territory, in either direction, will cease.
Prime Minister Begin then made the following announcement:
The Government of Israel endorsed the statement just made to you by Mr. Philip Habib, the emissary of the President of the United States. |
