75. Defense Ministry Statement on Deportations, 28 April 1993.
A day after the resumption of the peace negotiations, and as a gesture of good will, Mr. Rabin, in his capacity as minister of defense, decided for political reasons, to cancel the deportation decisions and orders against 30 Palestinians. This decision was relayed to the Jordanian- Palestinian delegation to the peace talks in Washington. Text:
Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin has decided, for political reasons, to cancel the deportation decisions and deportation orders executed against 30 residents of Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip. Involved are deportations which were executed in the past, from 1967 until the outbreak of the Intifada. The decision on the identity of the deportees whose deportation orders have been rescinded was made, in consultation with security elements, after an investigation revealed that they had not been involved in the execution of terrorist attacks - and that they had not been involved in hostile terror activity during the deportation period.
The statement of the defense minister was relayed to the Jordanian-Palestinian delegation to the peace talks in Washington.
