25 June	Elections to the 13th Knesset result in Labor obtaining 44 seats, Meretz 12, Hadash 3, Arab Democratic Party 2. The Likud won 32 seats, Tsomet 8, Moledet 3. Of the religious parties, Shas won 6, the National Religious Party 6 and the United Torah Judaism 4.
2 July	President Herzog charges Yitzhak Rabin with the task of forming the next government.
13 July	Yitzhak Rabin presents his government to the Knesset and wins a vote of confidence with 67 voting in favor. Mr. Rabin became, in addition to prime minister, defense minister as well. Shimon Peres became the foreign minister and Dr. Yossi Beilin deputy foreign minister.
16 July	Housing Minister Ben-Eliezer announces freezing of all building contracts in Israel and the territories which had been approved but not signed. Some 3,000 homes in the West Bank were to be affected. There would be a review of 14,000 housing units in progress.
20 July	Israel formally requests $ 1 0-billion loan guarantees from the U.S.
19-21 July	Secretary of State Baker visits Israel and holds talks with Rabin and Peres.
21 July	Prime Minister Rabin visits Egypt for talks with President Mubarak, the first such visit of an Israeli premier since 1986.
23 July	Israel announces the cancellation of contracts for 6,681 homes in "political" settlements rather than "security" settlements in the territories. 8,781 housing units whose building had begun would be completed.
11 August	Prime Minister Rabin holds talks with President Bush in Kennebunkport, Maine. President Bush proclaims his support for the loan guarantees.
21-23 August	Foreign Minister Peres visits Moscow, meets Foreign Minister Kozyrev. A Memorandum of Understanding on trade, economic affairs and tourism is signed.
23 August	Israel announces the release of 800 Palestinian prisoners. 280 houses sealed since 1987 in the areas would be unsealed.
24 August	Round Six of the bilateral peace talks resumes in Washington until 3 September.
24 August	Prime Minister Rabin cancels 11 deportation orders against PLO activists.
25 August	Israel presents a detailed autonomy plan, defining the role of the Palestinian Administrative Council controlling civilian matters.

16 December	The cabinet approves deportation of 415 Hamas activists.
17 December	The Arab delegations suspend the bilateral talks in Washington in protest over the Hamas deportations.
18 December	The deportees are driven to the Lebanese border. That country refuses to admit them and they camp near Zumraya, in no man's land near the Security Zone in South Lebanon.
18 December	The Security Council adopts Resolution 799 (1992) which condemned Israel's action.
21 December	UN Under-Secretary James Jonah visits Israel for talks on the Hamas deportees.
23 December	The Israeli High Court of Justice rejects an appeal to reverse the deportation orders.

19 January	The Knesset repeals a 1986 law banning meetings between Israelis and members of terrorist organizations, opening the way for talks with the PLO.
28 January	In a unanimous decision, the Israeli High Court of Justice rules that the Hamas deportations were legal.
1 February	Israel offers to allow back immediately 101 of the Hamas deportees. Those remaining to be allowed back at the end of 1993. Palestinian leadership rejects the offer.

7 June	Foreign Minister Peres announces that Israel and Jordan were only a "pen stroke" away from a peace treaty. Jordanian officials later denied this claim.

5 July	Hizballah terrorists ambush and Israeli patrol in the Security Zone,
6 July	Hizballah shells northern Israel and the Security Zone with Katyusha rockets.
7 July	Three Israeli soldiers are killed in the Security Zone by artillery shelling.
8 July	Two Israeli soldiers are killed in the Security Zone.
11-14 July	Visit to Israel of the deputy foreign minister of Vietnam. During his visit Israel and Vietnam sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of diplomatic relations.
25 July	Israel launches "Operation Accountability" with aerial strikes at Hizballah and PFLP bases. Two Israeli civilians are killed in Hizballah shelling of Kiryat Shmonah.
26 July	IDF shells villages in Southern Lebanon creating a massive flight of population.
27 July	IDF shelling of Southern Lebanon continues on land and from the sea.
