Later that day the Cabinet held a special emergency meeting and ordered a closure of the areas, postponement of dealing with the release of Palestinian prisoners, freezing the agreed "safe passage" for Palestinians travelling from Gaza to the West Bank and demanding that the PA strictly adhere to the fulfillment of all its commitments. Text:


At the special Cabinet meeting this evening (Sunday), 22.1.95:

The Cabinet received a report on the fatal attack - and sends its condolences to the bereaved families, and its wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded.

The Cabinet decided to take the following measures:

A. To prevent the entry of Palestinians into Israeli territory for a number of days.

B. To postpone dealing with the release of Palestinian prisoners.

C. To freeze the "safe passage."

D. To issue demands to the Palestinian Authority in all matters pertaining to the fulfillment of its commitments.

E. To strengthen the security forces.
