40. Statement by Prime Minister Netanyahu on Arab attacks on his government, 1 December 1996.
In recent days, Arab media and Arab leaders have stepped up their attacks on the government of Israel and its Prime Minister, accusing both of dragging their feet in the negotiations. The Prime Minister felt he had to respond to these charges. Text:
In response to attacks by elements within the Arab world, the Prime Ministers Bureau wishes to clarify that, since taking office, the Government of Israel has been exposed to harsh, verbal attacks by a number of governments in the region.
These attacks, whose clear intention is to put pressure on Israel, will achieve nothing.
The Government of Israel sharply rejects these attempts to sabotage the peace process, and to prevent the peoples of the region from realizing their right to stability, prosperity and a better future.
Instead of cursing and threatening, our neighbors would do well to cooperate toward the advancement of peace.
