  78. Summary of a meeting between Foreign Minister Levy and Morocco Head of Liaison Office in Israel Rhoufrani, 21 December 1999.

The purpose of the meeting was to extend an invitation by newly crowned King Mohammed VI to Israel's Foreign Minister to visit Morocco, an act Israel highly valued. This would be a further step in cementing ties between the two nations. Text:

Foreign Minister David Levy today (Tuesday) 21.12.99, received an official invitation to Morocco from King Mohammed VI. The date for the visit will be set in talks after Ramadan. The invitation was handed to the Foreign Minister by the Moroccan Ambassador to Israel, after which they discussed the renewal of negotiations with Syria and the strengthening of bilateral relations.

This is the first time since the Oslo Accords that Morocco has initiated a senior Israeli official at the level of the Palace. In receiving the invitation, Foreign Minister Levy noted Morocco's historic contribution to the peace process and said that he was sure that this contribution would continue.
