Airlift of Aid to Earthquake Victims in Turkey

(Communicated by the Industry and Trade Ministry Spokesman)

Trade and Industry Minister Ran Cohen, following a request made by the Turkish Ambassador for aid for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey, contacted the major Israeli companies via the Manufacturers' Association and the Chambers of Commerce, and asked them to contribute the necessary materials, including medicines, orthopaedic and medical equipment (X-ray machines, monitors), tents, blankets, food, baby food, and equipment for the evacuation of victims.

The Trade and Industry Minister asked companies and organizations to "lend a helping hand, and do their best in the effort to alleviate the suffering of those in need in Turkey."

The flow of incoming calls to the Trade and Industry Ministry by industrialists wanting to make contributions is growing daily, and three flights are leaving for Turkey daily, laden with products and equipment contributed by industrialists and importers. The equipment is transferred to the stricken areas according to need.

The following goods have been sent so far: thousands of dollars worth of medicines, 3,000 loaves of bread, 50,000 batteries, 9,000 towels, tens of thousands of bottles of water, baked and canned foodstuffs.
