PM Barak: PA Must Prevent Terrorists from Harming Peace Process

(Communicated by the Prime Ministers Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Ehud Barak regards this morning's terrorist bombing in Netanya with utmost severity and sends his best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. He has ordered the security services to take urgent action to track down those responsible.

Prime Minister Barak added, "My government is determined to crush terrorism and is doing - and will continue to do - everything in order to remove this threat to Israeli citizens' peace and security. The Government expects that the Palestinian Authority will act effectively to prevent terrorists from harming chances to advance the peace process."

The Jerusalem Post reports:

At least 16 people were injured, one seriously, when a pipe bomb exploded today in a trash can in the coastal city of Netanya.

The explosion comes a day after the Islamic Hamas promised to step up terror attacks inside Israel in an effort to sabotage the IsraeliPalestinian peace talks on a permanent peace settlement.

At 10:30 a.m. three pipe bombs hidden next to a trash can at the corner of Rehov Herzl and Rehov Sha'ar Hagai exploded. A fourth pipe bomb was discovered meters away and taken to an isolated area where it was defused by sappers.

Update November 8: The perpetrators of yesterday morning's terror bombing that wounded 34 people in Netanya remain at large. Last night, nine people remained hospitalized, including Henya Fier, whose condition was listed as moderate to serious; the eight others were listed as good.
