PM Barak: Security Needs Paramount in Determining Future Borders
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)
Prime Minister Ehud Barak returned from Paris last night (Tuesday),
9.11.99. Regarding his trip, the Prime Minister said:
"In my talks, I emphasized the fact that Israel's security needs will
be the main factor in determining the permanent borders; as far as I
am concerned, security interests are paramount in the negotiations. I
explained to my interlocutors that in our region, Israel's strength
and ability to defend itself, are of supreme importance. Our region
has known - and still knows - dictators who would not hesitate to use
any means at their disposal to attack Israel. In the past, there have
been attempts to erase Israel from the map."
Prime Minister Barak added that while Israel is not afraid of such
attempts and threats, it is determined not to give in on any vital
security components in any future agreement.
