Finance Ministry budgets NIS 20 million to local and regional authorities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza

(Communicated by the Finance Ministry Spokesman)

Finance Minister Avraham Shohat today (Wednesday), 29.11.2000, directed Finance Ministry personnel to transfer NIS 20 million to local and regional authorities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza that have been severely affected by the security situation. The sum will be transferred in the coming days.

This budgetary framework is deigned to cover special social and economic expenses which the authorities were forced to bear as a result of the recent security events. These costs include payments for special community services, including psychological support, social workers and social and economic assistance to residents who have been adversely affected by events.

A special inter-ministerial team will today determine the exact criteria according to which disbursements will be made to the aforementioned local and regional authorities.

Finance Minister Shohat said the special budgetary transfer was decided upon because in addition to protecting the communities and the concern for the personal security of their residents, attention must be given to those special needs which have arisen in several communities in the wake of the tension and distress which their residents have suffered as a result of the security situation.
