(Communicated by the Defense Minister's Media Adviser)

The Defense Ministry today (Thursday, May 25), announced that the withdrawal from Lebanon is complete. Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz has reported to Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak that the IDF deployed this morning along the international border in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 425 with the objective of defending northern communities from there.

The Prime Minister and Defense Minister praised the IDF soldiers and commanders for their rapid deployment along the international border and for carrying out their defensive mission during the years they were deployed in the security zone. He expressed his deep appreciation for the steadfastness of the northern communities' residents and expressed the hope that the IDF's redeployment and the government's support plan will strengthen the residents' security and enable them to go about their daily routine.

Israel calls for the full implementation of Resolution 425 and for the Lebanese government to realize its sovereignty in southern Lebanon. The Prime Minister and Defense Minister calls for the UN and international community to act to implement Security Council Resolutions 425 and 426 and stated that as of this morning (May 25) the responsibility for events in southern Lebanon falls on the Lebanese and Syrian governments. He warned that Israel will respond with force and determination for any attack on its sovereignty, citizens or soldiers, as part of duty of self-defense.
