PM Barak speaks with US President Clinton

(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Ehud Barak spoke last night (Monday), December 11, 2000, with US President Bill Clinton. The two men discussed the activity of former US Senator George Mitchell's fact-finding committee and the current efforts to both reduce violence in the region and step up the implementation of the Sharm understandings.

The two leaders also discussed various possibilities regarding a future resumption of the diplomatic negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. In this context, President Clinton reiterated his willingness to invest time and energy in advancing the process to the extent that conditions are ripe for this. Prime Minister Barak thanked President Clinton and expressed the hope that the conditions for a resumption of the negotiations will be created soon.
