Price Indices For 1999
(Communicated by Central Bureau of Statistics)
Jerusalem, January 16, 2000

The Central Bureau of Statistics has released its price indices for 1999.

In the last 12 months, price indices for all markets rose between 1 1/4 and 5 1/2%. Most indices rose less in 1999 than in 1998 (which were between 4 1/2 and 8 1/2%). Most of the indices in this period were lower than in any year since the founding of the state, except for 1967.

Analysis of the market indices show that most showed a sharp increase in the second half of the year compared to the first half, with rates jumping from between approximately 0.1-1.0% in the first half of 1999 to between 2 1/2-4 1/2% in the second half. The CoL Index showed the greatest disproportion between the two halves of the year, from -0.5% to +1.5% change respectively.

Indices changes for 1999 are as follows (1998 figures in parentheses): Cost of Living Index - 1.3% (5.2%); Wholesale Index for Industrial Output - 3.5% (7.1%); Construction Inputs Index - 2.2% (4.9%); Agricultural Inputs Index - 3.4% (6.2%); Road Construction Inputs Index - 5.4% (5.9%).
