Cabinet Approves Trilateral Anti-Terrorism Apparatus
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

The Israeli peace cabinet decided tonight (Jan 3) to agree to President Clinton's proposal to establish a trilateral Israeli- Palestinian-American apparatus chaired by senior officials which will deal with the prevention of terrorism and the reduction of violence.

The peace cabinet also decided to dispatch Gilead Sher to the United States in order to consolidate parameters for the establishment of this apparatus, and to receive an update on additional details on the talks held there earlier today with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Following various erroneous media reports, the Prime Minister's Media Advisor would like to specifically clarify that no decision has been made regarding the dispatch of teams for talks with the Palestinians. All efforts are now being focused on the reduction of violence, and the elucidation of additional details from Arafat's meetings. Israel will consider the prospect of working with the United States to narrow the gaps, only after the aforementioned matters have been clarified.
