Security Cabinet bars Arafat from leaving for Bethlehem
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

The Ministerial Committee on National Security Affairs (i.e. the Security Cabinet), yesterday evening (Saturday), December 22, 2001, decided - in a telephone vote among its members - not to allow Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to leave for Bethlehem. This decision was taken against the background of the fact that Chairman Arafat is neither acting to disband the Palestinian terrorist organizations, nor foil acts of terrorism against Israel from PA territory, nor detain and punish terrorists, including the late Minister Rechavam Ze'evy's assassins, as well as those who dispatched them.
