Cabinet Communique

At the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday), December 1, 2002:
1. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon noted that today is World AIDS Day and
commented, "We are marking World AIDS Day today. I want to say that
the battle against this disease is of great important for the general
Israeli public. The activities of the Committee for the War Against
AIDS and the Health Ministry are part of an important and essential
public service. It is our responsibility as citizens of the State of
Israel to do everything possible to fight the disease on one hand and
to help those suffering from it, and their families on the other."
2. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz briefed ministers on current security
matters and noted the rising cycle of terror attacks and the
increased pressure as a result of a greater number of attempted
attacks by different terror organizations in the Palestinian
Authority. The Defense Minister emphasized that the widespread
attempts to perpetrate terror attacks, by all terror organizations,
is extraordinary, and that the security services are able to thwart
many of them. The Defense Minister detailed a long list of attacks
that have occurred, including the terror attack in Kenya in which
three Israelis were killed and dozens more were wounded, and the
attempted attack against the Arkia flight. Defense Minister Mofaz
briefed the cabinet on the evacuation of Israelis from Kenya.
