PM Sharon speaks with Turkish PM

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon spoke today (Tuesday), November 26, 2002, by telephone with the newly elected Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and invited him to visit Israel.

Prime Minister Sharon congratulated his Turkish counterpart on the victory of his party in Turkey's recent elections and his success in setting up a new government.

Prime Minister Sharon told Turkish Prime Minister Gul that Turkey is a stabilizing factor in the region and is supported and held in high esteem by many countries. Thus, it can act as a bridge between the West and the Islamic countries.

Prime Minister Sharon added that Israel and Turkey have a friendly relationship built on trust, and based on common interests that should be developed and enhanced.
