Terrorists take over St. Mary's Church in Bethlehem, Palestinian corpse left on the scene
(Communicated by the IDF Spokesman)

IDF soldiers evacuating priest and nuns from the St. Mary's Church compound.
A number of terrorists took control of the St. Mary's Church compound, and during the last several day, held the priest and a number of nuns there against their will. The terrorists used the church as a firebase from which they shot at IDF soldiers in the area. The IDF soldiers refrained from returning fire when fired upon.

Today, an IDF force under the command of the Bethlehem regional commander, entered the church compound without a battle, in coordination with the church clergy. The force evacuated the priest and nuns from the compound.

The force revealed that the terrorists had fled the church, leaving behind the corpse of a Palestinian wearing a camouflage uniform, who was shot in the head. In addition, the force found that the back door to the church was shot open, apparently by the terrorists who fled.

This incident serves as another testimony to the Palestinians' cynical use of holy shrines as 'safe-zones' from which they carry out terrorist attacks.
