President Katsav to Leave for State Visit to China

President Moshe Katsav and his wife will on Saturday night, December 13, 2003, leave for a one week state visit to China. President Katsav will be accompanied by President of the Israel National Academy of Science, Professor Ya'akov Ziv, Likud Party Chairman, MK Gidon Saar, Labor Party Chairman, MK Daliah Itzik, General Director of the Industrialist Union, Yoram Blizovski and Chairman of the Israel Export Institute Shraga Barush.

President Katsav's visit to China is the first official Israeli visit to take place in five years and represents an improvement in Israeli-Chinese relations.

The President will begin his visit in Hong Kong where he will meet with government officials, businessmen and leaders of the Jewish community there. President Katsav will then travel to Beijing where he will meet his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and the Chinese parliamentary chief Wu Bangguo.

President Katsav will inaugurate the new Israeli embassy in China and will meet with leaders of the Jewish community there.
