General closure on Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip

5 Dec 2005

(Commnicated by the IDF Spokesman)

In accordance with a decision made by the political echelon and following security assessments of the current situation, it was decided to place a general closure on Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, effective tonight.

The closure follows the suicide bombing attack in the city of Netanya on December 5, 2005, in which five Israeli civilians were murdered and dozens more were wounded and the repeated launching of projectile missiles from the Gaza Strip towards Israel.

The following easing of restrictions will be permitted during the closure:

Judea and Samaria:

Palestinians from Judea and Samaria wishing to worship in Jerusalem during the Christian holidays of December will be allowed to do so. 500 Palestinians will be authorized to enter the city every day for prayer and worship.

Gaza Strip:

  • The Erez security crossing will be open for passage for all authorized persons.
  • The Karni goods crossing will be open and will function at its full trade capacity.
  • The Sufa security crossing will be open.

Throughout the duration of the closure humanitarian cases will be handled and approved by the District Coordination and Liaison offices.
