Following are Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s remarks at the start of the special Cabinet meeting today (Monday), 6 June 2005, at Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem on the occasion of Jerusalem Day:
“We decided to hold a Cabinet meeting at Ammunition Hill to mark Jerusalem Day.
We made several decisions, all of which deal with moving Jerusalem forward. The first decision regards the railway that will link Jerusalem with Modi’in, Ben-Gurion International Airport and Tel Aviv. The second decision regards student tours of Jerusalem as part of the compulsory school curriculum; we also decided that soldiers would make regular tours as well. We also accepted Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz’s proposal to move the security colleges to Jerusalem. We approved a comprehensive plan to strengthen Jerusalem vis-a-vis employment, housing and the city center.
Our visit here today expresses the Government’s approach to Jerusalem as well as the need to strengthen the city as the eternal and undivided capital of the State of Israel.”
