IDF completes transfer of areas in southern Lebanon to UNIFIL

1 Oct 2006

(Communicated by the IDF Spokesman)

Early this morning, October 1, 2006, the IDF transferred the areas under its control in Southern Lebanon to UNIFIL, and redeployed along the international border with Lebanon (along the Blue Line). The IDF will continue to operate in the area of the village of Rajar until the IDF, UNIFIL and the Lebanese army come to an agreement regarding the security arrangements in the area.

The IDF redeployment is in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and follows the deployment of reinforced UNIFIL and the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon.

The IDF continues to view the Lebanese government responsible for ensuring quiet and security from its territory.
