President Shimon Peres on Presidential Visit to Great Britain

The President will meet with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and Prime Minister Gordon Brown, will address the two Houses of the British Parliament, and will also appear before 1,000 students at Oxford

The President of the State, Mr. Shimon Peres, will leave for an official visit to Great Britain between the dates of November 17-21 at the invitation of the British government in recognition of 60 years of Anglo-Israeli relations. 

In the framework of the visit, President Peres will hold a round of state meetings with: the Queen of England, Elizabeth II; Prince Charles; the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Gordon Brown; Foreign Minister David Miliband; and the Head of the Opposition, David Cameron. In his discussions with these leaders, President Peres is expected to raise the strengthening of cooperation between Israel and Great Britain in matters of state, economy, and security.

During the trip, President Peres will give a speech before members of both Houses of the British Parliament, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. President Peres will also take part in a unique event that will be held at Oxford University at which will be inauguruating a prestigious five-year lecture series to be named after President Peres. At the event, President Peres is expected to address 1,000 Oxford students. Additionally, President Peres will be the honored guest at a shared event with the people of the City of London in which he is expected to receive an honorary degree from King's College and to give the keynote address at a panel on the Middle East. The President will also take part in a state dinner arranged by the Honorable Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Finally, the President will conduct a massive campaign of advocacy on behalf of Israel and will hold meetings with leaders of the British Jewish community.
